The International Jet Sports Boating Association (IJSBA) announced today that The IJSBA SuperCourse Challenge will be a part of the 2004 Dos Equis Desert XX and Dos Equis World Finals in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. as an exhibition race.

“We are excited to have the opportunity for an exhibition SuperCourse race at the World Finals this year,” said IJSBA Managing Director, Biorn Tangeland. “SuperCourse will allow endurance racers and closed-course racers alike the opportunity to mix it up and showcase their talents together on the same course,” continued Tangeland.

SuperCourse racing is an exciting form of watercraft racing that is intended to resemble the fast-paced sport of motorcycle road racing. Course layout and scoring will be managed by Marty Roberts of TeamSport Racing. “The larger and more powerful watercraft of today resemble more of a road bike and so the course includes more sweeping turns and multiple buoy turns which is different than the single buoy turns of closed-course racing,” said Roberts. “With the length of the race, rider stamina and strategy play a role as the racing drama evolves throughout the race,” Roberts continued.

The IJSBA SuperCourse Challenge will be open to the Pro-Am Runabout 1200 Superstock class. Registration will open next week online at www.ijsba.com/supercourse. Racers must be current IJSBA or IJSBA Affiliate members. There will be practice/qualifying on Friday, October 8 with the race on Saturday, October 9 during the Pro weekend of the World Finals.

The race will consist of 40 minutes plus two laps with no refueling allowed. All Superstock class rules will apply as detailed in the 2004 IJSBA Official Competition Rulebook. This includes the racing of 4-stroke PWC as allowed in the rulebook. Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers.

Roberts expressed that, “This event is a great opportunity to showcase the new sport of SuperCourse racing to the watercraft world at such a high-profile event like World Finals. I think that spectators, endurance racers and closed-course racers alike will be thrilled with what they see.”

SuperCourse competitors with questions regarding this portion of World Finals may contact the IJSBA by e-mailing info@ijsba.com or by calling 714-751-8695
