The 2023 SBT AquaX USA season kicked off in the lovely town of Michigan City, IN July 8th and 9th Teams were greeted with beautiful weather on Friday as racers arrived, however, Saturday cold and rainy which added to challenging race conditions. A welcome party put on by Visit Michigan City LaPorte was well attended by all the teams with free food and live music for all the competitors to enjoy.
The Farthing Clan came out guns blazing in the Pro Enduro with Dustin Farthing schooling the field in a masterclass on how it is done. The battle between current AquaX World Champion, Tory Snyder and Camden Powell has set the stage for the rest of the season as Powell challenged Snyder every step of the way.
Vanjae Ramgeet put in a spectacular effort for D-Mack Racing with a 4th place overall followed by Deven Farthing and Monster Energy rider Jay Finlinson respectively. The only female Pro Rider Sophie Francis came in 7th overall beating out the majority of the Pro Class.
The AM 300 Class did not disappoint with Talan Farthing taking the top spot with his first-time racing AquaX Enduro. Overcoming some spectacular dismounts, Tim Hickman managed to hold on to his 2nd place overall finish. Equally as impressive, also with his first AquaX Enduro competition, Nathan Dalli rounded out the top 3, beating out some seasoned AquaX Endurance riders.
Puerto Rico rider, Melvin Canals took the top spot in the AM200 Class, followed by Jeff Caco and Andrew Ray.
The Great Lakes Water Cross crew also ran their closed-course round alongside the P1 AquaX team in Michigan City, the addition of the closed course racing created a full weekend of high energy on water entertainment. Sunday’s beautiful weather drew the crowds, with a packed beach full of fans and spectators.
If the SBT AquaX first round is the benchmark, the rest of the season is lining up to provide epic battles, major upsets and non-stop talent. The next Amateur round will be LaPorte, Indiana followed by Daytona Beach, FL for both Ams and Pros.
