POWERTRAIN
The STX-15F proudly carries the heart of a Ninja® motorcycle. Derived from Kawasaki’s class-leading Ninja ZX™-14R sportbike, its 1,498cc engine delivers plenty of low- and mid-range torque while generating an impressive 160hp[2].
The engine blends the best of both worlds by delivering snappy performance with excellent fuel economy and low emissions. In fact, the STX-15F has earned a Three-Star Ultra-Low Emissions rating from the California Air Resources Board, and meets the Environmental Protection Agency’s strictest standards.
Dual overhead camshafts, four-valves-per-cylinder and Digital Fuel Injection provide maximum performance and reliability. A four-injector fuel injection system combined with a large 60mm throttle body delivers quick responses to rider inputs. The STX-15F’s four-stroke engine is rubber mounted to isolate vibration, and features a performance-tuned exhaust as well as a large-capacity airbox.
PROPULSION SYSTEM
Propulsion duties are handled by a direct-drive, axial-flow jet pump driving an oval-edge, stainless steel, three-blade 148mm impeller for powerful acceleration. Tuned to produce its peak power at a relatively low RPM, the STX-15F engine matches the impeller’s peak efficiency to provide rider-friendly performance. This direct drive arrangement eliminates the need for a complex gear reduction unit and offers improved durability and increased fuel economy with less vibration and noise.
The STX-15F personal watercraft (PWC) also features Kawasaki’s innovative electronic Smart Learning Operation (SLO). Accessible from the instrument panel, SLO can be programmed to limit maximum engine speed so novices can experience riding at a reduced speed as they master proper techniques.
HULL DESIGN
Aggressive turns and high-speed stability are key performance attributes of the STX-15F. Its specially designed injection-molded sponsons have a molded “lip” for increased cornering grip and high-speed tracking.
The STX-15F PWC also gets turning assistance tanks to its Kawasaki Smart Steering® (KSS®) system. KSS employs an on-board microprocessor linked to a steering sensor. When the handlebar is fully turned in either direction, and engine RPM drops below a designated setting – such as when the throttle is released at speed – the microprocessor activates the system to raise RPM and provide thrust for maneuvering.
Additionally, a molded Kawasaki Splash Deflector (KSD) is incorporated into the hull to help minimize spray on the occupants.
The muscular and aggressive-looking STX-15F, which is available in an Ebony and Lime Green color, might be lighter and more compact than some of the competition, but its spacious riding position makes its sporty performance easier to access for a wider range of riders.
ERGONOMICS AND STORAGE
The spacious rear deck of the STX-15F makes it easy to fit water skis or climb onto a wakeboard. An automatically retracting boarding step is located on the rear of the hull to simplify boarding when in deep water.
There is no shortage of space to stow items on the STX-15F. The rear deck can accommodate gear needed for a day on the water, such as a cooler. There is also a water-resistant storage compartment, an easily accessible glovebox and additional storage space under the seat.
The hatch cover is made from resilient ABS plastic and uses a hydraulic damper to hold it open, allowing easy access until the rider closes it. The mirrors are also ABS plastic and echo the sleek lines of the Jet Ski watercraft, being mounted directly to the top deck.
A generous 16.4-gallon fuel capacity allows extended rides, during which there is plenty of time to enjoy the cockpit features. These include an LCD instrument panel with fuel level, speed, engine RPM, trip distance and a clock available, with warning lamps to alert the rider of a low fuel level or high engine temperature, along with a magnetic-keyed ignition switch that helps deter unauthorized operation.

POWERTRAIN
The 2015 Kawasaki Jet Ski Ultra 310X astonishes with 310 horsepower[4] thanks to an engine that is the basis for an open-water, race-winning powerplant. It propels the sporty-handling hull that’s capable of tackling rough water with ease, or comfortably hauling three adults in addition to an impressive payload. Power, handling, versatility – the Ultra 310X brings it in ways the PWC competition simply can’t.
With 310 horsepower1 on tap, the Ultra 310X’s Digital Fuel Injected (DFI®) 1,498cc engine is the reigning king of thrust, and its crown is the high-tech Eaton TVS series supercharger. The supercharger gives the engine exhilarating yet linear power, and its race-derived hull design is capable of carving precise turns in a wide range of water conditions, from sheet-glass to chopped-surf; exactly what hard core PWC performance enthusiasts would expect from a Kawasaki Jet Ski watercraft.
If strong acceleration is your idea of a good time, then the Ultra 310X, and its fuel-injected, DOHC, inline four-cylinder engine offer plenty of entertainment with a pulse-quickening performance like no other PWC powerplant on the water. Its roots-type Eaton Twin Vortices Series (TVS) supercharger uses a pair of four-lobe rotors to boost engine output. The key lies in its fixed-displacement design, which produces large quantities of boost at all rpm, from idle to redline. It gives the 310X a flat torque curve and linear power across the rev range. Yes, the 310X is quick, but it’s also smooth!
The Ultra 310X has seamless power delivery thanks to its ability to channel compressed air through the engine at a steady rate, instead of in waves, as other superchargers do. And its liquid-cooled intercooler helps to cool the compressed intake charge as it enters the Ultra 310X’s combustion chambers. Cooler air equals denser air, which means less power is lost to performance robbing engine heat.
The 310X features an intake manifold that is long and slim to increase low-mid range power, while power and greater fuel efficiency are achieved via a high-volume fuel pump. Kawasaki’s Fuel Economy Assistance mode in the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) significantly increases range for long-distance riding.
Ultimate performance is nothing without rock-solid reliability, and the 310X engine was built from the bottom to top for long-lasting durability in a supercharged application. The 310X’s pistons have a V-groove at the second ring (between the top and second ring grooves) for more consistent oil retention at high loads. To aid piston cooling, the oil jet system that cools the undersides of the piston crowns uses two jets per piston rather than just one for enhanced performance. Baffles in the oil pan help prevent oil from accumulating on one side of the pan during tight turns or sudden acceleration or deceleration, and the crankcase also has large return holes to facilitate oil return to the pan.
The engine water jackets are thick for optimum cooling performance, and they feature a check-valve that opens when the engine is idling or stopped, but closes when it is running to keep the engine cool without over-cooling. The 310X also incorporates a knock sensor that improves engine protection by retarding ignition to suppress abnormal combustion – or engine knock – if it should occur. The system activates a buzzer and the condition is indicated on the instrument panel to warn the rider.
A perfect example of Kawasaki’s engineering know-how lies in the Ultra 310X super-efficient oil cooler, which helps minimize engine temperatures by circulating oil between two cooling jackets. The result is 310 class-leading horsepower3 that’s also totally reliable.
Last on the powertrain list is an advanced impeller design with specifically designed blade angles for better acceleration out of the hole. During acceleration, when cruising or at high speed, horizontal guide “vanes” on the propulsion grate improve hull tracking and reduce cavitation during acceleration for better hook-up. It’s just one more detail item that adds up to the most advanced production watercraft propulsion system in the industry.
ELECTRONICS
An impressive collection of futuristic electronics is standard on the Ultra 310X. Naturally, Kawasaki’s high-tech Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is the command center of the entire system. The ECU coordinates the injectors and throttle bodies of Kawasaki’s highly advanced DFI to route the optimum amount of air/fuel mixture into the combustion chambers with help from the Electronic Throttle Valve (ETV) system, which converts throttle lever inputs into electronic signals that are then passed on to the throttle body.
Ultra 310X has technologically superior rider aids for a range of riding modes. A few examples include the Fuel Economy Assist mode for maximum economy, which switches the ECU to a fuel map that focuses on gas mileage. There is also a one-touch 5mph mode for no-wake zones and a convenient Electronic Cruise Control system to set a steady cruising speed when touring. The Smart Learning Operation, or SLO-Mode, reduces engine output so newer riders can become familiar with the handling and response of the Jet Ski watercraft at a more relaxed pace. The customer is provided with two keys, one for SLO-Mode and the other for full-power operation, to help prevent confusion over which setting is in use.
Furthermore, the electronics package includes a smart Economical Riding Indicator on the digital display. This alerts the rider when the engine is operating in the most fuel-efficient manner, such as when planing at speeds where hull resistance is substantially reduced.
Electric Trim Control (ETC) is another example of the advanced technology that Kawasaki engineers have packed into the Ultra 310X. The ETC allows the rider to control the nozzle angle of the 160mm jet pump to adjust the hull attitude to suit both water surface conditions and riding style. The system has a plus-or-minus range of eight degrees, and it allows the Ultra 310X’s hull to take the fullest advantage of its razor-sharp turning characteristics.
HULL
Ultra 310X’s race-derived, fiberglass-reinforced hull is meticulously designed to be both incredibly strong and surprisingly light. Special reinforcements inside the hull help it to retain strength so its overall thickness can be optimized for low weight, which aids in maneuverability.
The hull also features an ingenious cleaning system with a two-circuit design, with each circuit utilizing a dedicated flushing port for the engine and intercooler to facilitate easy maintenance. Edgy-styled contours and nose trim combine to give the Ultra 310X’s bow a sleek and aggressive look.
ERGONOMICS
Of course, it’s equally important that the Ultra 310X cockpit and rider accommodations are as useful and comfortable as its high-performance engine and hull features. Front and center is a high-visibility instrument panel with an all-LCD info screen design that’s not only futuristic but also allows the rider easy monitoring of all the machine’s vital information. Aided by a visor for easier viewing in sunny conditions, the highly legible LCD display boasts a fuel consumption function that can display gallons per hour or gallons per minute, a boost meter scale and riding-mode displays along with a range of other functions, including clock time, trip and hour meter; digital or bar-graph tachometer; water and air temperature gauges; speedometer and max-speed functions. Keeping track of the Ultra 310X’s vital signs is a cinch.
The Ultra 310X SE’s ergonomic appointments not only match its quality aesthetics, but they’re designed for supreme rider comfort to boot. The Ultra 310X handlebar sits in a naturally ergonomic position and is adjustable to five different positions to fit a wide range of riders and riding styles. The wide bar offers plenty of leverage for easy maneuverability, which makes long rides more comfortable, and its gun-grip style handgrips offer a natural feel for reduced hand fatigue as well as sportier looks.
The 310X SE hull-mounted mirrors include a curvature that gives the rider a wide view for excellent rearward visibility. A special two-piece Sportseat was designed for aggressive sport riding and features a raised bolster to support the rider under hard acceleration. The sport seat’s narrow front facilitates sitting or standing when the Ultra 310X SE is ridden solo. The highly functional passenger handrail positioning places the handrail higher for a more natural ergonomic location, helping to reduce passenger fatigue.
And Kawasaki engineers didn’t stop there. The Ultra 310X’s deck design gives all riders plenty of legroom for ideal comfort, and its deck material offers excellent grip for the rider’s feet. A reverse lever on the left side of the craft is also ergonomically designed for easy and precise operation.
FUEL & HAULING CAPACITY
With 20.6 gallons of fuel capacity – the most in its class – the Ultra 310X allows plenty of range for long-distance rides. Up front, a handy storage bin with a generous 54 gallons of capacity is located under the front cowl, and dual drink holders keep refreshments within easy reach. Total combined storage capacity for the Ultra 310X is an industry-leading 56 gallons. You really can take it with you!
The Kawasaki Jet Ski watercraft is legendary in the personal watercraft world for good reason, and the Jet Ski Ultra 310X SE PWC lives up to its name by pushing the envelope of performance, style and versatility.

1 Horsepower measured in PS at the crankshaft under controlled conditions. Actual performance may vary.
The JETSOUND system is a bold move, but that should hardly come as a surprise. After all, who else would have the confidence to plant a supercharged inline four-cylinder engine, capable of a brawny 310 horsepower[7], into a precise-handling luxury hull designed to haul three adults in supreme comfort while carrying a class-leading storage payload? Kawasaki did, and the Ultra 310LX epitomizes the perfect blend of luxury and performance.
POWERTRAIN
With 310 horsepower1 on tap, the Ultra 310LX has a 1,498cc inline four-cylinder DOHC engine with DFI® (Digital Fuel Injection) that puts all other luxury watercraft to shame, and is the basis for an open-water, race-winning powerplant. It propels its race-derived hull design, which is easily able to carve precise turns in calm or rough water.
The engine offers tremendous thrust thanks to its roots-type Eaton Twin Vortices Series (TVS) supercharger. This supercharger features a pair of four-lobe rotors to boost engine output. The key lies in its fixed-displacement design, which produces large quantities of boost at all RPM, from idle to redline, giving the Ultra 310LX a flat torque curve and linear power across the rev range.
Ultra 310LX has seamless power delivery due to its ability to channel compressed air through the engine at a steady rate, instead of in waves, as other superchargers do. And its liquid-cooled intercooler helps to cool the compressed intake charge as it enters the combustion chambers. Cooler air equals denser air, which means less power is lost to performance robbing engine heat.
The Ultra 310LX benefits from many key components being incorporated into the design and build of this machine. For example, the 310LX features a specifically shaped intake manifold that is long and slim to increase low-mid range power, while power and impressive fuel efficiency are achieved via a high-flow fuel pump. Kawasaki’s Fuel Economy Assistance mode in the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) significantly increases range for long-distance riding.
The Ultra 310LX engine was built for long-lasting durability in a supercharged application. For starters, the 310LX’s pistons have a V-groove at the second ring (between the top and second ring grooves) for more consistent oil retention at high loads. To aid piston cooling, the oil jet system that cools the undersides of the piston crowns uses two jets per piston rather than just one for enhanced performance. Baffles in the oil pan prevent oil from accumulating on one side of the pan during tight turns or sudden acceleration or deceleration, and the crankcase also has large return holes to facilitate oil return to the pan.
The engine water jackets are thick for optimum cooling performance, and feature a check-valve that opens when the engine is idling or stopped, but closes when it is running to keep the engine cool without over-cooling. The 310LX also incorporates a knock sensor that improves engine protection by retarding ignition to suppress abnormal combustion – or engine knock – if it should occur. The system activates a buzzer and the condition is indicated on the instrument panel to warn the rider.
A perfect example of Kawasaki’s engineering know-how lies in the Ultra 310LX’s super-efficient oil cooler, which helps minimize engine temperatures by circulating oil between two cooling jackets. The result is 310 class-leading horsepower that’s also stone-reliable.
ELECTRONICS
An impressive collection of futuristic electronics is standard on the Ultra 310LX.
Ultra 310LX has technologically superior rider aids for a range of riding modes.
Electric Trim Control (ETC) is another example of the advanced technology that Kawasaki engineers have packed into the Ultra 310LX. The ETC allows the rider to control the nozzle angle of the 160mm jet pump to adjust the hull attitude to suit both water surface conditions and riding style. The system has a plus-or-minus range of eight degrees, and it allows the Ultra 310LX’s hull to take the fullest advantage of its razor-sharp turning characteristics.
An advanced impeller design uses blade angles that provide superb acceleration out of the hole. During acceleration, when cruising or at high speed, horizontal guide “vanes” on the propulsion grate help with hull tracking and reduce cavitation during acceleration for better hook-up. It’s just one more detail item that adds up to the most advanced production watercraft propulsion system in the industry.
The Ultra 310LX’s race-derived, fiberglass-reinforced hull is meticulously designed to be both incredibly strong and surprisingly light. Special reinforcements inside the hull help it to retain strength so that its overall thickness can be optimized for low weight, which aids in maneuverability. The hull also features an ingenious cleaning system with a two-circuit design, with each circuit utilizing a dedicated flushing port for easy maintenance. Edgy-styled contours and nose trim combine to give the Ultra 310LX’s bow a sleek and aggressive look.
ERGONOMICS AND COCKPIT
When you’re the king of luxury watercraft, luxury has to be king, and the Ultra 310LX cockpit and rider accommodations are as plush as they come. Kawasaki’s JETSOUND™ audio system simply takes the Ultra 310LX’s luxury to another level.
With its 2 x 20 watt-rated amplifier and pair of high-quality 30-watt speakers, the JETSOUND system is ready to rock. It’s practically a given that the JETSOUND would be iPhone® and iPod® compatible (the devices can be secured in the provided waterproof wet bag and stored in the glove box), but as an added feature it can also play music from a USB memory stick (up to 4GB), which can be plugged into an adapter located inside a waterproof aluminum case in the glovebox. Music volume and song selection are easily controlled by an audio controller on the handlebar (volume only with an iPod®, iPhone® or smartphone). JETSOUND reconfirms the 310LX’s status as top of the pops in luxury watercraft.
Ultra 310LX’s LXuryseat is designed for the ultimate in rider and passenger comfort. Its scalloped and contoured two-tone saddle offers generously thick padding that’s extraordinarily luxurious. For 2015, the Jet Ski Ultra 310LX continues to feature the industry’s first heat-resistant seat cover, which helps keep the rider and passengers cool on hot days. Also, the user-friendly passenger handrail is positioned in a high, more natural ergonomic location to help reduce passenger fatigue.
Front and center is a highly-visible instrument panel with an all-LCD info screen design that’s not only futuristic but also allows the driver easy monitoring of all the machine’s vital information. Aided by a visor for easier viewing in sunny conditions, the highly legible LCD display boasts a fuel consumption function that can display gallons per hour or gallons per minute, a boost meter scale and riding-mode displays along with a range of other functions, including clock; time, trip and hour meter; digital or bar-graph tachometer; water and air temperature gauges; speedometer and max-speed functions. Keeping track of the Ultra 310LX’s vital signs is a cinch.
The Ultra 310LX’s ergonomic details are clearly comfort-oriented. Its handlebar, which features a standard GPS-mountable handlebar pad that allows the mounting of a wide range of popular GPS devices, falls in a natural ergonomic position but is also adjustable to five different positions so it can fit a wide range of riders and riding styles. The wide bar offers plenty of leverage for easy maneuverability, and that makes long rides more comfortable. Gun-grip style handgrips offer a natural feel for reduced hand fatigue as well as sportier looks.
The 310LX’s hull-mounted mirrors include a curvature that gives the rider a wide view for superb rearward visibility. A two-piece seat offers spacious accommodations for a rider plus two passengers, and its narrow front facilitates sitting or standing when the Ultra 310LX is ridden solo.
DECK DESIGN, STORAGE CAPACITIES
The Ultra 310LX’s deck design gives all the legroom they need for ideal comfort, and its unique deck goes a step beyond in the luxury department with Hydro-Turf® striped pattern deck matting that offers superior grip as well as a custom look. A reverse lever on the left side of the craft features is also ergonomically designed for easy operation.
With 20.6-gallons of fuel capacity – the most in its class – the Ultra 310LX offers plenty of range for long-distance rides. Up front, a handy storage bin with a generous 54-gallons of capacity is located under the front cowl, and dual drink holders keep refreshments within easy reach. Total combined storage capacity for the Ultra 310LX is an industry-leading
