The 52 mile round trip endurance race is one of the oldest Offshore PWC endurance races and the hallmark of Offshore Endurance racing in the United States. Racer's from across the country will descend on Long Beach for their chance at winning the most prestigous LB2CAT trophy and their share of the prize money for the Sunday event. The race is true test of man vs machine and the elements as water conditions can be calm yet turn dangerously rough during the channel crossing and their craft must be able to handle the punishment that the Pacific Ocean and Mother Nature can dish out. Most of the competitors have been practicing for this race, some for over 10 years before attempting it.
Five divisions of personal water craft including the “Manufacturer’s Stock” (completely stock, no mods whatsoever) & "Super Stock Ltd" (open to all racers that have done minor modifications to their boats except to the drivetrain) are there to entice the average PWC enthusiast to participate in 2013 These classes along with the Pro/Amateur and Veteran Open clases are expected to swell the field to over 40 boats as the news of the weekend of racing stirs interest in the entire personal water craft community to enter and be a part of this momentous annual race. Offshore PWC racers from across the country are clamoring to get their entries in and compete with the elite West Coast group of offshore endurance experts try to break the new records in every class set 6 years ago (54:32 seconds) for the challenging channel crossing.
The multiple champion with back to back wins in 2008 & 2009 and the overall 2012 winner Craig Warner, Wildomar, CA #7 Monster Energy & Kawasaki will be back again going for his fourth National title on a Kawasaki Ultra 300X.
Among the early entry favorites are Mark Gerner, Aliso Viejo, CA #58 on a Kawasaki Ultra 3000X, K.C. Heidler #2 Irvine, CA and Nick Vanis #13, Los Alamitos, CA. Being an endurance race, it can really be anyone's race and has been in the past.
