WaterTop Unlimited® is preparing for the third and final event of the 2005 Nissan® Frontier™ Florida PWC Rally Series where one person will leave Amelia Island $2,500.00 richer. In addition to awarding the AWA Poker Run overall winner, participants will discover new waters 30-miles north of Jacksonville, FL in the historic town of Fernandina Beach. The September 10-11 event will be the last hurrah for many of the participants and the perfect way to close out the 2005 watercraft riding season.
The Florida PWC Rally Series is a weekend full of watercraft related activities on water and off designed to showcase the variety of fun the watercraft lifestyle offers. The FRS, as the series has become known among participants, provides an organized, yet laid back social environment where people can try different aspects of the sport while meeting new people who share the same passions. Six organized activities are planned for participants with the AWA Poker Run being the culminating event.
In the four year history of the Florida PWC Rally Series a woman has claimed the overall grand prize for three of them and in the 2005 series standings a woman once again is holding the most chips. Kym Socher goes to Fernandina Beach with a narrow overall lead with 70 points after she was dealt a Flush at the second rally in Sebastian. Socher has a five point lead over two more ladies, Deanna Christy and Kristen Colpus, and Gary Rosenhouse representing the men, all three with 65 overall points.
The competition doesn’t end at the AWA Poker Run as PPG’s Speed Alley will pit rally #1 and #2 speedsters, Walter Lewis and Jason Ward, against a host of other contenders to see how fast their watercraft really is in front of a Radar Gun. The glassy conditions of the area’s marsh lain inter-coastal waterway may provide the right conditions for an 80+ mph run.
The Riva Motorsports® Hot Lap Challenge is one of the FRS’s favorite spectator activities as participants are introduced to buoy course racing. Each participant is given two-laps on a miniature closed course track for time as the announcer calls the action and the times are immediately posted on the WaterTop scoreboard. Designed to offer a glimpse into watercraft racing the Hot Lap Challenge is fun for all but with the added incentive of a $250 gift certificate to Riva Motorsports for the day’s fastest time.
Hydroturf® will show spectators of downtown Fernandina Beach why the company’s foot traction accessories are a “must have” as the performers of the Hydroturf All My Crazy Friends™- LIVE freestyle show take to the water and air. The on water antics of this show pave the way to a fun night at the WaterTop Movie and a Meal night, which will once again include cheering on the competitors of the Sandbar Derby – hermit crab races.
Participants can also research their next big purchase as display trucks from Title sponsor Nissan® will be on hand showcasing their premier PWC tow vehicles, the all new 265-hp Frontier™ King Cab and 305–hp Titan™ Crew Cab. Also on-site will be staff from Sea-Doo and Yamaha, both of which will have new watercraft models for all to test ride in the Personal Watercraft Illustrated™ Demo Shootout.
All this takes place in one of the state’s premier watercraft riding areas of Amelia Island where participants will enjoy the AWA Poker Run that will take them on a 45-mile run among marsh lain canals to white sand beaches. On land 400 years of history will keep visitors enthralled with a visit to Fort Clinch to top the adventure. The Hampton inn & Suites will be home for participants with ample trailer parking and the Fernandina City Marina with in a stones throw away.
