Contraband Days, Louisiana Pirate Festival is introducing a new event the first weekend of the festival, Saturday-Sunday, May 4-5: Contraband Days Spike and Splash at I-10 North Beach. It combines the EVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour and the Hydro-Turf Watercross National Tour. Southwest Louisiana will be the first stop to kick off their 2013 season and is the only visit in the entire state.
The tour features the world's best and fastest professional athletes as well as a contingent of up-and-coming men and women in the highly explosive and exciting sport of personal watercraft racing otherwise known as "watercross." These riders will utilize some of the most advanced equipment and technology to help their watercraft reach speeds of over 80 miles-per-hour.
Thousands of racing enthusiasts will be on hand to catch the excitement. At each event, spectators will see athletes compete for top honors, and also have the chance to interact with the pros by participating in contests and promotions.
The watercross racing will take place Saturday, May 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Sunday, May 5, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The beach volleyball tournament will occur Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
