CanAm Canadian Nationals, July 23-24 2016, Belle River, Ontario

By: Larry Letke

With the annual Belle River Sunsplash Festival, comes one of the favorite races of the year. This time around, the Canadian Nationals brought more than 80 entries in 14 different classes with racers coming from both the United States and Canada. The racing is always great here and the only thing hotter than the racing this weekend was the weather!

Highlights of the weekend include 10 boats in the Sport class with Jason Lester taking the top spot in Sport Spec and Andrew Bezan taking the checkered flag in Sport Open. The podium in Pro-Am Ski GP was Mike Wendricks, Dave Davidson, and Shane Riley. In Pro-Am Ski Stock Spec results were Dave Davidson, Mike Wendricks, and Colin Raisig taking the top three spots. Pro-Am Runabout Stock saw Jay Edworthy, Allan Dolecki, and Timothy Neff collecting the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place hardware. In Runabout Rec Lites, or the Spark Class as it’s often referred to as, Andrew Bezan, Gordon Horne, and newcomer Sydney Czarcinski took top honors. The class to pay attention to is always the Jr Ski Lites. These kids are incredible to watch and all of them are great riders. Hannah Hulett took first place, Jessie Glennon second, and Brennan Hulett rounded out the top three.

Many thanks go out to Amy Green and Ray Proulx along with the entire CWA staff for giving us a great weekend of racing. Extra special thanks go out to our sponsors: Belle River BIA, Unique Tool & Gauge, Yamaha of Canada, React Tool & Mold, Sea Doo, and Keystone Groundworks. We would also like to thank Beach Hut, Subway, Peter and Cari Milec Decorating Center, and Windsor Flyboard.

The next event takes place on the shores of Lake Michigan in Whiting, Indiana on August 6&7 for the CanAm Great Lakes Cup.
