BBC Features Wisbech World Jet Skiing Champ On Breakfast TV
Current World, European and British jet ski champ James Bushell from Wisbech had an audience of millions on Saturday when he and fellow jet skiers appeared on the BBC’s extended sports bulletin on BBC1.

The 28-year-old sportsman, who has won dozens of trophies in a glittering career, showed the Beeb’s Mike Bushell how it’s done when he and the TV presenter took to the water at Tattershall Lakes in Lincolnshire.

Each week the show features a sport or activity that doesn’t usually get much time in the limelight, with Mike representing the beginner as he tries out the sport for himself.

The show was filmed in November at Tattershall Lakes – home to 158 Performance – a company James runs with business partner Matt Bullock which deals in jet skis, quad bikes and other adrenaline inducing machines; the business was named after James’ race number.

Mike and his cameraman spent an afternoon at the 158 Performance base, filming James, Matt and fellow members of the JSRA (Jet Sport Racing Association) as they showed just how exhilarating jet skiing can be.

“It was a fantastic afternoon and Mike was a great sport, even trying out James’ racing ski which is really the Formula 1 in jet ski racing terms and gave him a real sense of the acceleration possible on water,” explained Matt Bullock.

“The show offered us a great opportunity to talk about this exciting sport and to showcase just how much skill is involved in controlling these incredibly powerful machines at high speeds.

“Not only that, but it gave us the chance to dispel those myths that jet skiing is an elitist sport and helped show it can be taken up by people of all ages and abilities, providing they receive the proper training.”

Despite sharing the same surname, both Bushell’s are not thought to be related, although it did give them plenty to talk about when comparing family trees.

After filming Mike was given a safety vest emblazoned with Bushell 1 on the back by James as a reminder of his day on the lake.

And since then Mike Bushell has stayed in contact with 158 Performance, tweeting support for James on Twitter and even adding a section about his jet skiing experience into a book he is currently writing.
