The IJSBA is proud to serve the grass roots racing market by the creation of the Ski Lites Classes. Ski Lites classes are a lower cost class for Stand Up style personal watercraft also called “Ski.” The Lites classes use the Stock Class rules and restrict eligible PWC to those that are less expensive and well established in the market.

This year, the scoring in these classes will be split between Ski PWC that are in the 0-75 horsepower range and he 76-80 horsepower range. The Ski will be divided in these categories according to their OEM specifications.

Trophies will be awarded to the top five competitors in each horsepower range. Lites classes will be offered to Juniors and Amateurs only.

The IJSBA hopes that this is the beginning of a series of established classes which provide opportunities for grass roots racers. The IJSBA is committed to keeping racers in the sport and attracting new racers who may be on a more limited budget.

With these Lites classes, competitors will not be forced to purchase the latest and greatest high horsepower machines to continue being competitive. The 0-75 Horsepower Sub-class should be especially attractive to owners of the Yamaha Superjet 701 Standard Edition and the Kawasaki SXI-Pro. Rookie SXR owners on lower budgets should find themselves quite competitive in the 76-80 Horsepower Sub-class.

Grass roots classes with severe cost controls are something competitors have been asking for, the IJSBA is a membership based association which seeks to meet the needs of its members. The IJSBA is excited about this first offering of the Ski Lites classes at the 2006 World Finals and for the future of Lites Class racing.
