Only 8 days to the World Finals Poker Run
The 2004 AWA World Finals Poker Run, presented by Personal Watercraft Illustrated, will take place on Saturday, October 9 at Rotary Beach in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. This year’s event will include a spectacular ride, visiting some of the most beautiful and well-known sites on the Colorado River and Lake Havasu – the Personal Watercraft Capital of the World. As part of this exciting ride, participants will get a chance to take a scenic ride on the beautiful Colorado River and see Copper Canyon and other spectacular sites.
The poker run is a perfect event for the whole family or single watercraft enthusiasts looking to meet some new friends that also love PWC riding. With their entry fee (only $40 if pre-registered by October 1), each participant will receive an event T-shirt, gift pack with several other free gifts from the OEMs, stickers, magazines and more. Participants can register online at www.pwcfun.com or at the event on Saturday morning. Poker Run participants have a chance to win some great prizes like a wakeboards, wetsuits, tubes, and other great prizes as well as treated to a barbeque after the event. In addition to the free swag, everyone will win a prize at the event. Special thanks to Yamaha, Sea-Doo, Skat-Trak, Hydro-Turf, Slippery, and Fly Racing Products for the donation of great prizes for the event.
The World Finals Poker Run is a game of 5-card stud, with each stop on the designated poker run route counting as one card of the rider’s poker hand. Maps will be provided to each rider with their credential upon registration. At each stop, the participant’s map/credential will be hole-punched to indicate the rider has visited the stop. Prizes will be awarded according to standard poker rules.
AWA Membership Fees
Insurance requirements mandate that all participants are a current AWA or IJSBA members. Riders who are not members must add a one-year AWA membership fee of $24 to their entry fee to participate. Passengers who are not AWA members, and live at the same address as the rider, are eligible for a $10 AWA Family Membership, which will be added to the entry fee.
Event Check-In and Late Registration
All participants must check in between 8:30 am - 10:00 am at Rotary Beach Park. At check-in participants will sign the entry form waiver, get a wristband, pick up an event T-shirt and goodie bag, Poker Run map and safety information. Lake Registration will take place during this time as well for those needing to register.
Rider’s Meeting
A mandatory rider’s meeting will be held at 10:30 am on the beach at Rotary Beach Park. Weather and ride conditions, information about each poker run stop and other safety and event information will be discussed at that time.
How To Get There
The address for Rotary Beach Park is 1400 S. Smoketree Avenue in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. This 4-acre beach/park is centrally located and easily accessible from SR 95.
Start/Finish Procedures
The event will start and finish at Rotary Beach Park. After the rider’s meeting, riders can choose to do the Poker Run on their own or ride along with the several group leaders.
Watercraft Launching
Rotary Beach Park does not have a boat launch. Riders are encouraged to launch their PWC at the Lake Havasu Marina directly across the water from Rotary Beach Park. Day use launch and parking fees are $10. The Lake Havasu Marina is located on the island, across the London Bridge, next to the Nautical Inn Resort at 1100 McCulloch Blvd., Lake Havasu City. The Marina phone number is (928) 855-2159. The Lake Havasu Marina has a launch ramp, plenty of parking, temporary docks for use while launching, fuel dock and a convenience store for any last-minute items to take along for the ride. Site Six is a public launch ramp, located across the London Bridge and next to the Beachcomber Resort at the end of the island. Launching and parking are free. Parking is limited. Riders must launch their PWC and be prepared to ride prior to the start of the mandatory riders meeting at 10:30 am.
